“It’s amazing how loose some people become in their sketchbook drawing simply because they have a carefree approach and don’t become locked down in trying to make finished works.”
- Robert Wade
A daily practice of sketching and painting gives you a chance to exercise the big three P's - practice, practice, practice!
"Nguni" watercolour in Ashrad 200gsm Sketch pad - Maree©
I am SUCH a lover of Nguni cattle - if there's a book to be found I buy it! A Black and white Nguni skin adorns my lounge floor and I avidly read any articles or history about them I can find.
love the watercolor....
ReplyDeleteI have seen many pictures of the Zulu's cattle but didn't know the name of the breed. I just found info about the following book...do you have this one?
THE ABUNDANT HERDS
A beautiful book by Marguerite Poland, David Hammond-Tooke and Leigh Voigt celebrates the interrelationship between the Zulu people and their cattle. Watercolour and oil paintings by Leigh Voigt bring to life the cultural wealth and poetic heritage of the Zulu.

I have wanted to go to Africa ever since I was a child...I have no reason why...but I love the native art, clothing, etc. Are you ever interested in drawing those? I do a lot of African natives...I should post one sometime. P
Thank you Patricia and yes, I do have that one - Leigh Voigt's sketches are absolutely amazing. Love your sketch of the birdie hatching from the egg, very nice.
ReplyDeleteI from time to time do 'African' paintings - have a look at AFRICAN WONDER and WOMAN HOEING in the Menu on the left. Don't nearly do enough African scenes though...
